Though the company was looking to continue the deal because of the lucrative touring, it is no longer in the business of buying recorded music. This could potentially open a “buy-sell” situation where either side may buy the company outright or sell their portion of Roc Nation.
Roc Nation is the entertainment company that provides full entertainment services such as concerts and touring, production of music, film, and television, as well as being a music publishing company.
The company has several bug music artists such as Rihanna, Meek Mill, Shakira, and Fat Joe. Live Nation wants to keep the touring relationship with Jay-Z and hopes to retain the relationship for many years.
Jay and Desiree Perez, the Chief Operating Officer at Roc Nation, spoke with the chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group in Santa Monica establishing rumors that UMG may purchase a stake in Roc Nation. More of this topic on igstars.com.
While UMG already signed a distribution deal with the company, it is only a small portion of the business. UMG may be looking to invest in a larger stake to gain a wider reach with their artists. The competition is fierce with large companies like Apple Music and Spotify, but a deal with UGM may provide the resources Jay Z needs to gain momentum in his streaming service and developing new artists.
